“La Main Gantée” is a mysterious jewellery thief whose exploits have the police on tenterhooks, especially Inspector Grosminou, who is keen to unmask him. Grosminou learns that the famous ‘diamond star’ Sophia Machin is visiting the town and has expressed a desire to spend a few hours on the beach incognito. This is a great opportunity for “The Gloved Hand” to exercise his talents. So Inspector Grosminou comes up with a plan. And so we find the inspector and his men on the sunny beach, carefully watching the holidaymakers around Sophia Machin, who has just arrived. “Is ‘The Gloved Hand’ hiding among them? In a real-life setting where gags explode amidst pretty bathers and wacky policemen, this burlesque film revives the “Mack Sennett” comedy tradition in a “modern” guise.
