The Loire Valley brings together the provinces of Berry, Orléans, Anjou and Maine. The river and its tributaries, the Vienne, the Loir, the Creuse and the Mayenne, offer a rich sampling of delightful landscapes. The Loire Valley boasts many famous writers: Rabelais, Ronsard, Du Bellay, Balzac. It is also a land of Christianity, where Joan of Arc rose to fame and where the remains of Saint Martin and Saint Benedict remain. But above all, it’s a land of châteaux, medieval fortresses and splendid Renaissance mansions. It is also a land of traditions, where hunting with hounds is still practised today.
